Water Services Beginning Next Week

The new water main is currently being chlorinated and tested. The results will be back today, and if all is satisfactory, water services will start sometime next week. Like mentioned below, each house will get its water shut off for a short amount of time while a new 1.5” copper service is installed. The contractor will alert residents before their water is turned off.

The contractor is completing the installation of pipe and fittings on the water main. Next week, the newly installed pipe will be pressure tested and then chlorinated. Once those tests are satisfactory, the contractor will begin installing water services to each house. Residents will have their individual service turned off for approximately 2 hours when the contractor works on the service. All homes are receiving a new 1.5” copper service. The contractor will inform each house the day of the individual service shut off.

When a home’s water service is shut off for any amount of time, some air will accumulate in the pipe. When the water gets turned back on, it is good for the resident to slowly turn a faucet back on and allow the air to escape, which is a very quick process

Water main work is continuing along Indian Road. On Wednesday, the connection was made to the existing 12” main on Wilmette. The contractor is currently working on Indian between Glenview Road and Beverly Lane and will continue next week installing water main and installing fire hydrants. The water main installation should be completed next week and the filling, chlorinating and pressure testing should commence.

Water Main Installation

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) of the water main began yesterday heading north on Indian from Beverly. This process involves pushing a reamer through the ground in the location that the new water main will go. Residents will most likely notice all the orange fencing in the front yards. These are the areas where the contractor exposed the existing storm, sanitary and water services, to ensure that they do not create a conflict with the new water main.

This process will continue into next week. The water main pipe was delivered today, and the contractor will be installing the pipe (pulling it into the tunnel) between Beverly and Wilmette on Monday.

Expect to see more workers on site starting Monday. Please be very cautious when driving though the site.
